Alice Evans Broughton has been selected as the next Artist-In-Residence for Hot Springs National Park. Ms. Broughton is currently teaching drawing and related courses in the Continuing Education Department at Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. During her residency she hopes to paint landscapes including the trees, wildflowers, mountains, and water features of the national park with a goal to “motivate more people to become champions of the precious natural spaces provided by our national parks.”
Ms. Broughton attended the Kansas City Art Institute and received her BFA degree in 1996. She has also attended classes at Baylor University, Illinois State University, Illinois Central College, and Bradley University. She has worked as a commercial artist for Hallmark Cards, advertising agencies, and magazine publishing companies over a twenty-three year period.
Ms. Broughton has had numerous solo and group exhibitions of her work and participated in the Ward Parkway Juried Art Fair in 2006 and the Westport Juried Art Fair in 2005. Her work has received awards at the Degas Pastel Society Members Exhibit in New Orleans, Louisiana and the Smoky Hill Exhibit in Hays, Kansas.
Artwork created through the Artist-In-Residence program is displayed at the Hot Springs National Park Visitor Center. The visitor center located in the historic Fordyce Bathhouse is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is free of charge.
