(Corpus Christi, Texas)-Acting Superintendent Betty Frantum announced that Park Rangers will conduct safety checkpoints on roadways and beaches at the National Seashore for July 4th weekend, in order to provide visitors with a safe and enjoyable holiday. Safety checkpoints are designed to educate the public as well as to deter and detect safety violations. Rangers will also remind visitors to drive slowly on Gulf Beaches as well as enforce the firework prohibition and fire-use restriction, consistent with area fire bans. The park fire-use restriction will remain in effect until July 5, 2006.
Visitors traveling to Bird Island Basin Boat Ramp should anticipate the parking lot filling to capacity. In the event that the parking lot becomes full, visitors may not be able to park and/or use the facilities. Park Rangers will be on duty enforcing parking and traffic rules and regulations at Bird Island Basin and throughout the National Seashore.
