The first in a series of teacher workshops co-sponsored by the National Park Service and the Department of Education was held at Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park on June 22-23, 2006. The Department of Education's Teacher-to-Teacher workshops bring some of the nation's best teachers and practitioners together to share their strategies for raising student achievement and informing teachers of the latest, successful research-based practices. For the first time, one of these workshops was linked to a national park site. Hosted at Dayton Aviation Heritage, the workshop used the story of the Wright brothers as a basis for developing curriculum-based programming in history and math for K-8 teachers. Two other co-sponsored workshops will occur in national park sites this year; one at Edison National Historic Site and the other in association with Lewis and Clark National Historic Trail.
