THE LOWELL SUMMER MUSIC SERIES ANNOUNCES 17TH SEASON CONCERTS
The Lowell National Historical Park, the University of Massachusetts Lowell and the Lowell Festival Foundation present the 17th Season of the Lowell Summer Music Series at Boarding House Park. Grammy Winners headline the 2006 Lowell Summer Music Series: Pianist Bruce Hornsby (1986, 1989, 1993), folk-rock goddesses Indigo Girls (1989. 1990), Latin rock group Los Lobos (1983, 1989, 1995), salsa stars The Spanish Harlem Orchestra (2005) and N’Orleans blues pianist Dr. John (1989, 1992, 1996, 2000). In addition, the Series will present folk legend Judy Collins; contemporary folksinger/songwriters Dar Williams and Eddie From Ohio; Oldies shows by Davy Jones of the Monkees, Orleans (Still the One, Dance With Me), and Eric Burdon & the Animals; Blues shows by Hot Tuna, Marcia Ball, Mighty Sam McClain and the Chicago Blues Reunion; Celtic music and dance by Canada’s Leahy and French-Canadian La Bottine Souriante, stars of the 2005 Lowell Folk Festival; new music from up-and-coming performers Ben Taylor and Grace Potter and the Nocturnals; Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream; performances of American pop tunes by Lowell’s SRO Players and our annual finale, the 27th Annual Banjo & Fiddle Contests. Continuing Series Sponsors are Moosewood, Organic Classics, and the Apartments at the Boott Mills. We are pleased to welcome Kashi Co. as a new Series Sponsor. The Lowell Summer Music Series includes ten free children’s shows and 22 low-cost concert events, plus this year’s Lowell Folk Festival fundraiser with Marcia Ball. All show times are 7:30PM except the Banjo & Fiddle Contests, a free event that starts at noon. Affordable for the whole family, children 12 and under always admitted free to the Lowell Summer Music Series (except the 7/3/06 Folk Festival fundraiser). This year, tickets will also be available at the Lowell Natioanl Historical Park Visitor Center at 246 Market Street and the Boott Cotton Mills Museum at 115 John Street. Season Passes are also on sale for 50% off the full box office price! Just $150 gets you in to all 21 paid admission shows – a $305 value – until June 1. 2006. Friday, June 30 - Hot Tuna (Acoustic & Electric) Admission $15 Acoustic and electric blues by Rock’n’Roll Hall of Famers Jorma Kaukonen and Jack Casady.
Saturday, July 1 – Eric Burdon & the Animals Admission $15 Original Animals lead singer Eric Burdon and his new band perform songs from his new blues CD, Soul Of A Man, along with hits like House of the Rising Son and Spill The Wine.
Monday, July 3 – Marcia Ball fundraiser for Lowell Folk Festival Admission $20 & $50 Piano pounding Marcia Ball plays masterful, red hot bluesy licks from the Texas-Louisiana border. Concert fundraiser in support of the 20th Lowell Folk Festival: $20 concert only/$50 includes the concert plus a meet and greet with Marcia Ball at a pre-show reception at the opening of a new exhibit “20 Years of the Lowell Folk Festival” at the adjacent Boott Cotton Mills Museum.

A Free Children’s Series will be announced shortly featuring music, magic, juggling, dance and lots more fun, most Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 11:00AM at Boarding House Park, starting July 5th.
