Park dispatch contacted rangers on the afternoon of May 19th and relayed a report of an unresponsive man in a vehicle at Muir Beach Overlook. Marin County fire and police units also responded. They found that the driver, a San Francisco resident, had succumbed to suspected carbon monoxide poisoning. He’d pulled his vehicle off the road and onto the Coastal Trail, lit a small charcoal fire in a metal bowl, then closed all the windows.
