Starting Monday, May 22, 2006 groups of 14 to 30 people that want to use the two new group campsites in Voyageurs National Park can reserve the sites. There are two ways to reserve the Kabetogama Lake or Rainy Lake Group Campsites. Groups can reserve the sites online at http://reservations.nps.gov or by calling 800-365-CAMP (800-365-2267).
Reservation program highlights include: • sites can be reserved from June 11 to September 17, 2006; rest of year they are first-come, first-served • to reserve either site, the group must have at least 14 people • in 2006, there is no fee for reserving a group campsite • groups must check-in at the corresponding visitor center (Kabetogama Lake or Rainy Lake) before going to the site • check-in at a visitor center by 2:00pm required; check-out time from the site is 12:00 noon • reservations must be made at least 5 days prior to arrival • sites can be reserved for 7 consecutive nights • reservations must be made through the internet or telephone number provided; advanced reservations will not be accepted by the park
From June 11 to September 17, 2006 these sites are available to groups with less than 14 people on a walk-in basis. Visitors who wish to use the site, but do not meet the 14 person requirement for an advanced reservation can go to the Kabetogama Lake or Rainy Lake visitor center to check on the site’s availability for the current day. If the site is not reserved, walk-in campers can reserve the sites for the current day and up to four more days if the site is not already reserved.
