PARTNERS HELP TO REHABILITATE TRAILS AT FORT DONELSON NATIONAL BATTLEFILED
Fort Donelson NB, TN – In celebration of National Trails Day, Fort Donelson National Battlefield is proud to announce receipt of a grant for $17,834.00 to enhance the visitor experience at the park. Unilever’s Recycling at Work Sustainable Grants Program, in partnership with the National Park Foundation, provides 100% sustainable, recycled plastic (HDPE #2) lumber for projects including trails, boardwalks, overlooks, pullouts, docks, enhancements to visitor centers, and other visitor amenities such as picnic tables and benches. The Recycling at Work Sustainable Grants Program is a part of Unilever’s Proud Partner Program
The grant will be utilized to repair and improve foot bridges along the Donelson and River Circle trails at Fort Donelson National Battlefield and in construction of amphitheater style benches and platforms adjacent to the visitor center for use in educational programs including Parks as Classrooms, special events, and interpretive demonstrations and living history programs. Stewart County young adults employed through the Youth Conservation Corps program will assist park staff in completing projects associated with the grant.
Now in its 14th year, National Trails Day (NTD) has grown to inspire nearly a million trail enthusiasts to flock to their favorite trails to discover and experience the wonders of trails in their own communities and throughout the country. The official date of National Trails Day is the first Saturday in June, which falls on June, 2006.
