Pennsylvania Highlands Community College in On May 31st in commemoration of the Great Flood of 1889 the partnership with the National Park Service's Johnstown Flood National Memorial will be hosting a program to unveil a new digital library of materials and photographs of the Great Flood.
The Pennsylvania Highlands Community College received a Library Services and Technology Act grant from Commonwealth Libraries to digitize nine rare monographs and 37 never-before-seen albumen photographs. The collection will be available online for the public later in the summer. In addition photographs from the Louis Semple Clarke Collection and historic building surveys will also be part of the collection.
The program will be held at 8:00 p.m. in the historic South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club Clubhouse in St. Michael. National Park Service interpretive rangers will be on hand to conduct tours of the Clubhouse and 2,209 illuminaria will be lit on the remnants of the South Fork Dam to commemorate the lives lost in 1889.
