Fire Restrictions Begin Friday, May 19, 2006

Chaco Culture National Historical Park

National Park News

Due to the severe drought conditions, and for the protection of life, property and resources, the following fire restrictions are in effect for Chaco Culture National Historical Park beginning Friday, May 19th 2006.

Open campfires are prohibited in Gallo Campground. Charcoal grills, along with the use of charcoal, are permitted in the NPS-installed cooking grates (located at each camp site) for the purposes of cooking. Portable charcoal grills may be used on the cement pads of the fire grates or in a location that is at least 30 feet away from any vegetation and flammable material.

Containerized fuel such as propane or gas stoves and lanterns are permitted in the campground.

Smoking is restricted to vehicles equipped with ashtrays or on paved and/or graveled parking lots and roads that are at least three feet away from any vegetation or flammable material. All smoking materials must be disposed of in ashtrays.

All fireworks are prohibited at Chaco Culture NHP.

We thank visitors for complying with the fire restrictions and for helping to keep Chaco safe!
