Catoctin Mountain Park Rescinds Temporary Fire Burn Ban
The open air burn ban at Catoctin Mountain Park has been rescinded effective 12:00 noon, Saturday, April 22. Campfires will be permitted in designated areas at Owens Creek Campground and Camp Misty Mount. Small cooking fires may be built in grills provided by the National Park Service in overnight camping areas and Chestnut and Owens Creek Picnic Areas.
Substantial rainfall and seasonal forest growth has permitted the lifting of the open air burn ban. However, fire danger is never completely eliminated. Visitors are cautioned to build small, easily controllable fires and to make sure that fires are completely extinguished before being left unattended.
