Over 125 Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts earned "Fairness and Equality" patches on April 22, 2006 at the Brown v. Board of Education NHS "Scouting Day" event. Scouts toured the site and completed an activity booklet which helped them learn about the five cases included in the Brown v. Board of Education landmark decision. On the historic playground, the scouts made crafts, talked with a ranger, ate lunch and played games empahasizing fairness and equality.
The event statrted National park Week events at the site. It was organized with the Jayahwk Area Council of Boy Scouts and the Kaw Valley Area Council of Girl Scouts.
