The National Park Service and its consultant, EDAW, Inc., have initiated a planning and design effort for the Cheeseboro Canyon Universal Access Trail and Parking Lot Enhancement in the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SMMNRA). The public is invited to attend a meeting on this project on Tuesday, May 2, 2006, starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center, 27040 Malibu Hills Road, Calabasas, Calif. The NPS and EDAW will put forward plans, maps, and graphics to present the project.
The General management Plan for SMMNRA and the Comprehensive Design Plan for Simi Hills (1996) provide overall direction for developing the site, and identify the need for parking lot improvements and a universal access trail. These two approved plans and their associated environmental documents provide the background information. The main themes laid out in these documents form the framework for the proposed Cheeseboro Canyon Trailhead site Design Master Plan.
There are a number of ways to participate: attend the scheduled meeting and view maps/graphics which will be online at www.nps.gov/samo/accesstrail on May 5. The public may then submit written comments at the meeting or fax the written comments to 805-370-1850, Attention: Cheeseboro Canyon Universal Access Trail Plan. To receive future notifications, include an address. Additional information may be obtained by calling 805-370-2331.
