Taking a Stand for Equality and Justice: Commemorating the 52nd Anniversary of the Brown v Board of Education

Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and Philander Smith College will commemorate the 52nd Anniversary of the Brown v Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Court decision with guest lecturers on Thursday May 4 from 6:00 ? 7:30 p.m.

The event will take place at the Harry R. Kendall Science and Health Mission Center at Philander Smith College located at One Trudie Kibbe Reed Drive in Little Rock.

Speakers include John A. Stokes, one of the plaintiffs in the Davis v. County School Board of Prince Edward County case (one of the cases that was consolidated into the 1954 Brown v Board of Education case), and Dr. John DiPippa, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs and Distinguished Professor of Law and Public Policy at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock William H. Bowen School of Law.

John A. Stokes will speak about his personal experience as one of the plaintiffs in the Davis v. County Board of Prince Edward County case and Dr. DiPippa will speak about the importance of the cases that made up Brown and the larger implications of today. The event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be available.

A curriculum based lesson plan about the Brown v Board Supreme Court case titled, ?You?re the Justice! A Landmark Case in Supreme Court History? is available for educators at the Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site or downloadable online at www.nps.gov/chsc.

Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site is located at 2125 Daisy L. Gatson Bates Drive, across the street from Central High School. The visitor center is open from 9:00 a.m. ? 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free. For more information call (501) 374-1957.
