In conjunction with Earth Day 2006 the Friends of Whiskeytown joins the National Park Service at Whiskeytown National Recreation Area in sponsoring its 15th annual Pick Up Lake Litter Day event; an event that the whole family will enjoy on Saturday, April 1st. Over the last fourteen years, hundreds of volunteers have helped to clear thousands of pounds of litter from around Whiskeytown Lake.
?This is a great opportunity for the community to get involved and work together in taking care of their National Park,? stated Whiskeytown Superintendent Jim Milestone. ?In support of Earth Day we invite you to join us in making a difference at Whiskeytown Lake. I look forward to seeing our dedicated, long-time volunteers again, and I look forward to making new friends at Whiskeytown.? Volunteers who participate will be rewarded with a free lunch at the Brandy Creek Marina, and a free raffle ticket for prize drawings, all thanks to several of the local businesses and individual sponsors throughout Redding. Volunteers will also have a chance to participate in a treasure hunt and a free pass to enjoy the park for the rest of the day
Volunteers are encouraged to roll up their sleeves and support clean communities. Participants should register Saturday morning (April 1st) from 8:30-10:00 am in front of the Whiskeytown Visitor Center just off Highway 299 west of Redding. Volunteers should bring gloves and wear clothes they don?t mind getting dirty. For more information contact Volunteer Manager, Phyllis Swanson at (530) 242-3421.
