While checking a wooded area north of Woodlake Village Apartments in Gary, Indiana, last November 20th, rangers came upon two men who were in the process of cleaning a freshly killed deer. The men, who fled on foot through the woods, were later apprehended with the assistance of Indiana Conservation, Gary PD, Ogden Dunes PD and Portage PD officers. The two men ? one 38, the other 27, and both from Valparaiso ? were arrested and charged with unauthorized taking of wildlife, possessing a weapon, and resisting law enforcement officers. They appeared on February 10th in Hammond Federal Court. Each pled guilty to one count of unauthorized taking of wildlife on federal property and was fined $500 plus court costs.
