The initial phase of structural stabilization repair to the Boott Cotton Mills, Building #6, is now completed. This first stage stabilized the building while preparations were made for permanent repairs to the foundation in the coming weeks.
Phase two, or the permanent repairs to the building began early today. Over the next couple days they will pour the concrete footing on which the new columns will be set. From there they will place new columns under the building for the permanent support which will complete the project.
The Boott Cotton Mills, Building #6, has been closed to visitors and staff while the stabilization and repairs are being made. Operation of the park trolley, which was scheduled to resume in March 4th, has also been temporarily delayed. As a safety precaution, the overhead electrical lines that power the trolley have been deactivated to facilitate the safe use of a tall crane that is operating in close proximity on the construction site.
