Park Ranger Roberta Samuel has been with George Washington Birthplace National Monument for 32 years. During that time she has come to embody George Washington Birthplace to the visitor, to the community and to her National Park Service co-workers. Whether performing costumed interpretation, formal talks, colonial crafts demonstrations, managing the visitor center and fees, or coordinating events, her mantra has always been ?The visitor comes first?. She always ensures visitors are welcomed with a warm smile and enabled to enjoy the park to the fullest. She is always sought by returning visitors, and loved by all the staff and her loyal corps of volunteers. Her devotion to the park, her institutional memory, and her warm smile and kind heart will be missed.
