Initial Public Scoping Document for the Broadfoot and Shawnee Horse Staging Areas EA Available for Review

The National Park Service (NPS) is preparing an environmental assessment (EA) of the Broadfoot and Shawnee horse staging areas within Ozark National Scenic Riverways (ONSR), Missouri. The purpose of this EA is to evaluate the impacts from construction of their infrastructure and ongoing use and maintenance. The preferred alternative identified in this process will be used to ensure protection and consideration of the natural and cultural resources within the vicinity of the Broadfoot and Shawnee staging areas while providing for an appropriate visitor experience.

The NPS is currently taking public comments from February 16 ? March 3, 2006, with an additional opportunity to comment on the EA occurring in May 2006. Please focus your comments on identifying issues that you feel are important to consider, identifying alternatives that have not been considered, and providing any additional comments you feel may assist us in the preparation of this EA.

Please visit the NPS Planning, Environment and Public Comment (PEPC) site (http://parkplanning.nps.gov/document.cfm?projectId=14901&documentID=13980) to submit comments, or you may submit written comments to: Superintendent, Ozark National Scenic Riverways, P.O. Box 490, Van Buren, MO 63965.
