Displays and programs are presented at Hyde Street Pier throughout the month of March
Ashore and at sea, women found opportunity for employment, skill development, responsibility, and heroism. Park staff present programs spotlighting the contributions women have made to maritime history since the 19th century.
?Women Who Changed Maritime History? ? A Photographic Exhibit Daily, throughout the month of March, on Hyde Street Pier. Photo exhibition illustrating the significant impact women have had on maritime history.
?Tea with the Ladies and Suffragette March? Saturday, March 11, noon, on Hyde Street Pier and aboard the Ark houseboat. Join a salon of Victorian women (the park?s costumed living history players) from 1901 as they discuss the issues of the day. At noon, there will be a march on Hyde Street Pier in support of women?s suffrage.
?Wendy the Welder: Women Building Liberty Ships in WWII? Sundays, March 12 and 26, 2pm, aboard Balclutha at Hyde Street Pier. During World War II, a shortage of men brought women into the workforce building Liberty Ships. Hear fascinating accounts of their contributions in this slide presentation.
