Superintendent Christopher Moos announced that due to abnormally warm temperatures, low humidity, the abundance of dry fuels and a high fire danger, the monument has set fire restrictions effective January 19, 2006.
Smoking is restricted to the inside of vehicles only. Open fires and charcoal fires are not allowed in the park. An exception is granted where cooking stoves are fueled with white gas or propane and are used in the established picnic area. Restrictions will be in place until further notice.
