Abo Visitor Center Renovation

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument

Beginning February 6, 2006, the Ab? visitor center will be undergoing renovation and remodel. The Ab? Mission site will remain open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week and National Park Service personnel will be present to provide information and answer questions. Restroom facilities will remain available. The visitor center at Ab? will be closed until the renovation is complete. The renovation is projected to be complete by the end of April. The Ab? Mission site, which preserves the remains of a 17th Century Spanish Mission and Tompiro Pueblo, is located one mile North of Highway 60, nine miles West of Mountainair.

There are three 17th Century Spanish Mission and Pueblo sites preserved in the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. The visitor center at Quarai, located nine miles North of Mountainair on Highway 55, will continue normal operations 9:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week. The visitor center at Gran Quivira, located twenty five miles South of Mountainair on Highway 55, will also continue normal operations 9:00 am to 5:00 pm seven days a week. The Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument visitor center in downtown Mountainair, located on Highway 60 one block West of Highway 55, will continue normal operations from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Visitors coming to be connected to this interesting chapter of New Mexico history by experiencing these remarkable ruins can continue to expect a quality visit.
