Horseshoe Bend National Military Park will again attempt to complete Phase I of its Prescribed Burn Plan by initiating controlled burns along the Park?s northern boundary. This is set to occur on or about February 21st weather depending. The burns will be conducted by fire fighters from parks and forests throughout Alabama, along with resources from surrounding fire agencies. The burns will be conducted to reduce fuels accumulation, improve native long-leaf pine regeneration and to improve wildlife habitat.
Approximately 200 acres of pine and mixed hardwoods are planned to be burned, in accordance with the Park?s approved Fire Management Plan, starting sometime in February, weather permitting.
