Fort Scott National Historic Site will be closed Sunday, December 25, 2005 for the Christmas holiday and Sunday, January 1, 2006 in observance of New Year?s Day. Visitors may enjoy the fort grounds during daylight hours, but the buildings and visitor center will not be open.
The site will be fully operational throughout the remainder of the holiday season from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Throughout the month of December, the site?s bookstore will feature discounts on several gift books and book sets for those history buffs on your gift list. National Parks Passes which provide free entrance to all units of the National Park System are also available. They cost $50.00 each and are good for one year from the date of purchase.
Administered by the National Park Service, Fort Scott National Historic Site commemorates Fort Scott?s role in the opening of the West, Bleeding Kansas, and the Civil War. The entrance fee is $3.00 for persons age 17 and over. Beginning January 1, 2006, the fee will be charged to persons age 16 and over. Children enter free of charge.
