National Park Service Policy Review Underway
The National Park Service (NPS) is proposing to update its Management Policies and is seeking public input into the document according to Ocmulgee National Monument Superintendent Jim David. ?These are the policies that guide the management of all the 388 National Park Sites in the country? stated David. According to the Washington Office, the policies are being updated to improve their clarity and to keep pace with changes in laws, regulations, socio-economic factors and technology. The revised policies will also improve understandings among NPS Managers, and between NPS managers and the public, regarding how decisions are made in protecting park resources and providing opportunities for public enjoyment of the parks. Ocmulgee National Monument will have a copy of the draft available at the Visitor Center for public review. The document, and the ability to comment on it, is also available on-line at www.nps.gov. The comment period will run until February 18, 2006.
Ocmulgee National Monument is located at 1207 Emery Highway in Macon and the Visitor Center is located within the park. The park is open every day from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The park will be closed on Christmas Day, December 25, and New Years Day, January 1. There is no charge for admission.
