Antietam National Battlefield will host a special program on Saturday, December 3, 2005, featuring historian and author Dr. James I. Robertson, Jr. The presentation will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Visitor Center auditorium and Dr. Robertson will discuss Robert E. Lee at Sharpsburg. Afterward, from Noon until 3:00 p.m., Dr. Robertson will be signing copies of his new book A Biography of Robert E. Lee for Young Readers. The book will be available for sale at the Visitor Center through the Western Maryland Interpretive Association and the Montgomery County Civil War Roundtable.
The Visitor Center will be closing at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 3, 2005, for the presentation of the 17th Antietam Memorial Illumination, which opens to the public at 6:00 p.m. and begins on Richardson Avenue at Route 34. Additional information on the Illumination is available on the battlefield?s website http://www.nps.gov/anti/Luminary.htm. Entrance fees to the battlefield have been waived for the Memorial Illumination and Dr. Robertson?s program.
