Homestead National Monument of America announces the December 4 Sunday program which is part of the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures. On Sunday, December 4, Bernadette Korslund will share the French culture through photos and stories from France. Her program will be at 1:00 p.m. and again repeated at 3:00 p.m. Korslund grew up in France and moved to the United States as a young adult. She teaches French at the Beatrice High School and keeps those traditions alive by sharing them with her students. ?What an opportunity to have someone from France share this culture. The French culture is an excellent example of one of the cultures being preserved after being brought to this country by the Homestead Act of 1862.? stated Superintendent Mark Engler. The Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures highlights different ethnic cultures through exhibits of their winter traditions. These displays are available daily through January 2, 2006. The monument is closed on December 25 and January 1.
