Homestead National Monument of America announces the last of the Sunday programs which are part of the Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures. On Sunday, December 11, Rajean Luebs Shepherd will present a program about the many cultures of Nebraska. She is the author of the children?s book ?C is for Cornhusker?. Her program will be at 1:00 p.m. and repeated at 3:00 p.m. with a book signing at 2:00 p.m. During her research writing the book, Ms. Shepherd found many cultures throughout Nebraska. She will share stories about these cultures. ?The Homestead Act of 1862 brought many cultures to the 30 states that homesteaded the United States. Nebraska boasts that 45 percent of its land mass was successfully homesteaded bringing many cultures together. Ms. Shepherd?s program shares many of those cultures.? stated Superintendent Mark Engler. The Winter Festival of Prairie Cultures highlights different ethnic cultures through exhibits of their winter traditions. These displays are available daily through January 2, 2006. The monument is closed on December 25 and January 1.
