Whale Watch Weekend and Intertidal Life Festival

Cabrillo National Monument

National Park News

Barnacles and blowholes!!! Join the National Park Service on January 28th and 29th, 2006, for the annual Whale Watch Weekend and Intertidal Life Festival at Cabrillo National Monument, the only unit of the National Park System in San Diego. Don?t miss this exciting opportunity to explore the tidepools of Cabrillo NM and observe tidepool inhabitants such as sea anemones, sea hares, and hermit crabs, and to witness the return migration of the magnificent Pacific gray whale en route from Alaska to Baja California, Mexico. The event will include authors, researchers, and educators who will discuss the latest information concerning Pacific gray whales and intertidal (tidepool) life, a film about whales, and a puppet show, ever popular with children. This year will feature ?On the Edge of Land and Sea: the Tidepools of Cabrillo National Monument,? the brand new, 22-minute National Park Service film. Exhibitors will provide information about the gray whales as well as tidepools, and park rangers and Volunteers-In-Parks will be on hand to help spot whales and tidepool creatures. Low tides (-2.0 on both days) are at 2:52 PM on Saturday and 3:31 PM on Sunday. Dress warmly and bring a pair of binoculars. This family-oriented event is sure to be a ?Whale of a Sea-lebration?.
