Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site will pay tribute to Rosa Parks with an exhibit and film. Superintendent Dennis Vasquez announced, “We have developed an exhibit on the life of Rosa Parks and her visits to Topeka as a guest of the Brown Foundation.” The exhibit will be on display from November 5 to November 30. A 40-minute film 'Mighty Times' will be shown daily at 10:00 a.m. and 2 p.m., and for schools upon request. The film chronicles the story of how Rosa Parks, through a single act of defiance, stirred a community to unite and changed America forever.
Vasquez stated, “We invite the public to join us in paying tribute to this heroic woman and learn how her actions relate to the Brown v. Board of Education decision.” Her act led to the Montgomery Bus Boycott which lasted more than a year and brought the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. to nationwide prominence.
Brown v. Board of Education National Historic Site is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years Day and is free to the public. The National Park Service cares for special places saved by the American people so that all may experience our heritage. For more information call (785) 354-4273 or visit or website www.nps.gov/brvb.
