National Park News

On Tuesday, November 15, 2005, the public can exchange a quarter for five of the “Ocean in View” nickels at Knife River Indian Village National Historic Site. The coin exchange will take place at the Visitor Center from 3:00 to 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time. Coins will be provided by Union State Bank of Stanton and Branch Manger Cheri Stromme will be at the park for the exchange.
The “Ocean inView” nickel is the fourth design in the series. The series began with the Peace Medal nickel, followed by the Keelboat nickel, and the Bison nickel.
Tuesday, November 15, 2005, is the 200th Anniversary of the Lewis and Clark Expedition seeing the Pacific Ocean for the first time. Patrick Gass said “Here we halted on a sand beach, formed a comfortable camp, and remained in full view of the ocean, at this time more raging than pacific.”
Come and exchange your quarter for five nickels and celebrate the 200th Anniversary of the Expedition viewing the Pacific Ocean. Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is located ½ mile north of Stanton on County Road 37. For more information, call the park at 701-745-3300.
