On Sunday, October 30, 2005, a new exhibit will be unveiled at Knife River Indian Village National Historic Site. The unveiling will take place at the Visitor Center at 1:00 p.m. Mountain Time. After the unveiling, refreshments will be served by the Knife River Indian Heritage Foundation.
Featured in the exhibit will be an anvil stone and hammer stone from the Knife River Flint Quarries in Dunn County. They were used to break large pieces of flint into smaller pieces that were easier to transport and to work with.
The anvil and hammer were donated by Allan and Gail Lynch of Dunn Center, owners of land containing many of the quarries. “This generous donation will help visitors to the park better understand the methods of working with the flint and the important connection between the Knife River Indian Villages and the Flint Quarries”, said Superintendent Cheryl Schreier.
Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site is located ½ mile north of Stanton on County Road 37. For more information, call the park at 701-745-3300.
