A climber fell yesterday at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park, during an ascent of the Escape Artist route. Nearby climbers contacted National Park Service rangers at approximately 5 pm yesterday. Local rescue agencies and a National Park Service search and rescue team assembled to reach the climber. The climber has been lowered to the base of the climb and a Montrose Fire Department paramedic is at the scene. The climber has been assessed to have a possible broken pelvis and femur. The team will lower the patient approximately 600 vertical feet over scree to the river. At that time a helicopter will evacuate the patient.
