National Parks America Tour Stops at Cabrillo National Monument

Calling All Volunteers to Cabrillo National Monument! The National Parks America Tour stops in San Diego at Cabrillo National Monument on Saturday, October 22 in celebration of “Make a Difference Day!”
More than 200 people are expected to volunteer as Cabrillo National Monument hosts one of 26 National Parks America Tour – 2005 events on “Make a Difference Day”, Saturday, October 22, 2005 from 8:30 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. In cooperation with Take Pride in America, the National Park Foundation, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Unilever, the National Parks America Tour will engage local Boys & Girls Club kids, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, local high school students, Wal-Mart Associates and families in tide pool and beach clean-ups, removal of non-native plants, and other beautification projects. Volunteers will receive free t-shirt and breakfast compliments of program sponsors Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Unilever. The National Parks America Tour will salute America’s Best—its volunteers, at the Great American Picnic at lunch time after the work activities. The Great American Picnic is hosted by Dove®, Suave®, Snuggle®, Best Foods®, Wishbone®, Lipton® and Breyers®.
Sponsored by Unilever, the National Park Foundation, Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. and Take Pride in America, the National Parks America Tour is projected to donate more than 100,000 volunteer manpower hours in the National Park experience, resulting in an annual in-kind donation of $1.6 million. The National Parks America Tour volunteer projects range from building a handicap-accessible picnic area at Biscayne National Park, painting historical cannons at Fort Sumter National Monument to planting native sea oats on the dunes at Point Reyes National Seashore.
