The Office of Human Resources will be presenting webinars on August 7th and August 21st on the extension of benefits to married gay and lesbian federal employees, annuitants and their families.
On June 26th, the Supreme Court ruled that Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was unconstitutional. As a result of the court’s decision, the Office of Personnel Management is now able to extend benefits to National Park Service (and all federal) employees and retirees who have legally married a spouse of the same sex. The ruling opened a 60-day window that ends on August 26th for employees to make immediate changes to their benefits.
To help employees understand this opportunity, the Human Resources Operations Center’s Employee Benefits Branch will host a series of webinars to discuss the new rules and changes to the federal employees benefits program, how to change your benefits immediately, and future opportunities same-sex couples will have to make changes. The presentation will last approximately 30 minutes and then allow time for Q&A.
