Vicksburg National Military Park held its annual Park Day event Saturday, April 13. Twenty-nine volunteers painted twenty-four cannon carriages and cannons at Battery DeGolyer, the White House Battery and the 3rd Louisiana Redan in four hours. This helped park staff get ready for future Sesquicentennial events. Park maintenance staff prepared the carriages and cannons for painting and insured there was enough paint and brushes to accomplish the work. The volunteers were treated to pizza for lunch and received a program on Vicksburg’s upcoming Sesquicentennial events May 23-27. Superintendent Mike Madell was present to thank the volunteers for their work and answer any park related questions.
