Passing Of Long-Time Seasonal Biotech John Workman

Cape Hatteras National Seashore

National Park News

On the morning of Monday, March 25th, seasonal biotech Christopher Williams went to meet with fellow biotech John Workman at Workman's residence, a travel trailer located in the park housing area in Buxton. Williams and Workman were planning to travel together to park headquarters for check-in on their first day of their season.

When Williams arrived at Workman’s trailer, he heard the alarm clock sounding inside and got no response when he knocked on the door. He entered the trailer and found Workman in bed and unresponsive.

Williams then called another seasonal biotech, Damien Hardgrove, who ran to Workman’s trailer. Hardgrove began CPR and had Williams call 911.

Dare County Emergency Medical Service paramedics responded but were unable to revive Workman.

Workman had worked eight previous seasons in the seashore, four as a biotech and four in interpretation.
