Beginning Tuesday, November 1, 2005, the Manzanar National Historic Site Interpretive Center will be open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily. “In response to shorter days and cooler weather, we are adjusting our winter hours of operation to best meet public demand,” said Acting Superintendent Ann Huston. “We plan to extend our hours again in April,” she continued. The center will be open every day, except Sunday, December 25.
The Interpretive Center features 8,000 square feet of exhibits, an award-winning introductory film, and a bookstore operated by the non-profit Manzanar History Association. More than 130,000 people have visited the center since its April, 2004 grand opening.
In addition to Interpretive Center, park rangers offer guided walks and talks for the public and school groups. Public program schedules and special events are posted regularly on Manzanar National Historic Site’s web site at www.nps.gov/manz. Schools and groups may request program reservations by calling 760-878-2194. A self-guided auto tour is available any time during daylight hours.
