Rangers Stevon Culver and Steve Kay contacted a man and woman seated in their vehicle at the end of Old Highway 299 on September 12th for having a dog off leash and for not having a day use permit. During the contact, they smelled the strong odor of marijuana coming from the car. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a green duffel bag containing five labeled zip lock bags weighing a total of 2.2 pounds. The rangers also recovered several other containers of suspected marijuana, a glass pipe, and 3.3 grams of suspected methamphetamine. The man and woman were arrested and taken to the Shasta County jail. Further investigation revealed that they were in possession of stolen property and turned up evidence of possible check forgery. Rangers are working closely with the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Sacramento and the Shasta County District Attorney’s Office on the prosecution.
