Great Smoky Mountains National Park recently celebrated ten students within the region who participated in the NPS Academy, a program designed to introduce diverse college students to career opportunities within the NPS. The park served as the Southeast Region’s host park for the program.
The initiative was launched by Superintendent Stan Austin during the FEDS Feeds Families campaign (June 1st through August 29th) with fellow park employees at an all-hands summer meeting on Thursday, August 2nd.
"It is very important to allow our employees the opportunity to give to those who have less and are struggling with securing basic need," said Austin. "We were very pleased with the response from our entire staff! some of our employees were so inspired that we are having a volunteer day at the foodbank on Saturday, October 20th."
Cuyahoga Valley National Park will again participate in the FEDS Feeds Families in 2013.
