Commemorate National Hispanic Heritage Month at LR Central High School NHS

Central High School National Historic Site

National Park News

To commemorate National Hispanic Heritage Month, Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site will be showing “Mendez vs. Westminster: For all the Children / Para Todos Los Ninos,” a 27-minute documentary about school segregation among Mexican Americans in Orange County, California Saturday, October 8 at 1:00 p.m., and once again at 3:00 p.m. at the visitor center.
In 1954 the Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka Supreme Court decision outlawed legal segregation in education. Seven years earlier in 1946, Mendez et al.v. Westminster et al. set the precedent for the historic Brown v. Board case. Join park rangers to learn about the Mendez v Westminster case before the showing of the video.
Central High School National Historic Site developed a Spanish-language site bulletin that provides an overview of the ‘1957 crisis at Central High’, and is available free of charge at the visitor center.
