Park Conducts Wayside Dedication Ceremony

Pecos National Historical Park

National Park News

Historians, authors, living history re-enactors and others gathered along the Battle of Glorieta Pass hiking trail on Saturday, June 2nd, to dedicate the new wayside exhibit, “Vistas.” The Battle of Glorieta Pass, often referred to as the Gettysburg of the West, was fought in March 1862 in New Mexico by US Army Regulars, New Mexico Volunteers, Colorado Volunteers, and Texas Volunteers. The “Vistas” project was started in 2008 by Friends of Pecos National Historical Park as a way to further tell the story of the four groups that fought in the Battle of Glorieta. Saturday’s dedication was for the US Regulars, New Mexico Volunteers, and the Colorado Volunteers wayside exhibits. The Texas “Vista” wayside exhibit was dedicated in 2008.
