March For Parks Breaks Down Economic Barriers

Biscayne National Park

National Park News

On April 28th, the twelfth annual South Florida March for Parks broke down economic barriers to experiencing a national park for over 200 first time national park visitors.

Participants enjoyed bus transportation, lunch and unforgettable recreational experiences in Biscayne National Park thanks to partner support from the South Florida Community Partners, the National Parks Conservation Association, and the South Florida National Parks Trust.

Despite the abundant liquid sunshine, exuberant children celebrated National Park Week by paddling a canoe for the first time and learning to fish with Mahogany Youth Corporation.  For many, the highlight was boarding a tour boat for an encounter with a reenactor portraying Sir Lancelot Jones –an inspirational African American conservationist and proponent for establishing the park.
