Chiefs of interpretation from NPS areas in New Mexico held a meeting at the Rio Grande Open Space Center in Albuquerque on Thursday, April 12th.
The Teacher Ranger Teacher program, cooperating associations, the Service’s “Call to Action,” social media, and Volunteers In Parks were among topics discussed. Areas of emphasis included identifying special events planned at each New Mexico park and fostering interaction among the various park programs.
“Nothing beats meeting face to face, and exchanging information and ideas,” said Diane Souder, chief of interpretation at Petroglyph NM. “In eight hours together we were able to accomplish what would take weeks over the phone or email.”
The group also wanted to give a shout-out to former Bandelier chief of interpretation Lynne Dominy, who for years played an integral role in interpretation in national park units in New Mexico. Lynne was recently in a severe auto accident while on duty at Acadia NP. The group in the photo above is gathered around a marker board reading “Get Well Lynne.”
