The Grand County Sheriff’s Department received a cell phone call on Saturday afternoon reporting that a 64-year-old man who’d been snowshoeing with a family member in the park had collapsed and was unconscious and not breathing. They were about a third of a mile from the Green Mountain trailhead when the incident occurred. Rangers and area emergency service personnel responded, reaching the man within minutes. They provided advanced medical care but were unable to revive him. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
