Rangers Help Those In Need Via ‘Shop With A Cop’ Program

Cuyahoga Valley National Park

National Park News

Rangers from Cuyahoga Valley National Park have just completed a third year of involvement with the local Fraternal Order of Police "Shop with a Cop" program.

This program provides an outlet for local children in need of support to spend the day with police officers (and rangers) from around northeast Ohio.  The children are picked up by the officers, taken to breakfast at local police departments, ride with the officers in a parade of police and military vehicles lights and sirens, then shop for holiday gifts with donated funds raised by the officers at a local retailer.  The children then enjoy a group lunch before returning home.

This year more than 300 kids were sponsored and more than 220 police and armed forces members participated. Ranger Jared Brewer has been a driving force behind the park's participation and is available to help other rangers interested in starting similar programs.
