Park’s Largest Ever Tree Planting Project Completed

Natchez Trace Parkway

National Park News

In 2011, Natchez Trace Parkway planted 14,000 native tree seedlings and saplings in three states as part of comprehensive scenic and natural resource protection effort. This was the first of a multi-phased project addressing scenic resource issues along the parkway’s entire 444-mile corridor.

In addition to improving scenic aspects of the parkway, the twelve different tree species will improve wildlife habitat and ecosystem quality, aid in mitigating wetland impacts, and help restore historic landscapes. The parkway has set a goal of planting another 85,000 trees by 2016, especially in areas vulnerable to development.
