Everglades National Park is celebrating the 40th anniversary of its environmental education program, which reaches between 10,000 and 12,000 local students each year.
The park is hosting a special event for teachers, park partners, and park staff on Saturday, November 19th, at the Pine Island Chickee. Former Everglades education employees are invited to attend.
Those who are unable to attend in person but wish to contribute to the celebration may email a memory (for a memory book) or photos to Allyson Gantt, education and outreach coordinator, at Allyson_Gantt@nps.gov.
Before the ceremony, education staff will conduct afternoon walks at the Anhinga Trail and a slough slog to those who are interested. The celebration begins at 4 p.m. with refreshments, a slideshow of old and new pictures, and displays. Speakers will include the current and former park staff and teachers as well as the park superintendent and partners supporting the long-standing education program.
