Niobrara National Scenic River (NSR) was honored with the Spirit of Girl Scouting, Community Benefactor Award at ceremonies held in Kearney, Nebraska October 23rd by the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska council.
The award recognizes organizations that provide outstanding dedication to the Girl Scout mission of building girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place.
Nancy Klammer, the Membership Specialist for the Spirit of Nebraska Council, nominated the park for creating and presenting numerous educational programs for area Girl Scouts that combined exciting learning activites with achieving badge requirements. The nomination praised Ranger Adrianne Johnson’s creation and presentation of programs based on Niobrara resources as well as her being a vibrant role-model for young Girl Scouts.
Ranger Johnson, a Park Ranger Interpreter for the Niobrara NSR, is a 23 year life-member of the Girl Scouts of the USA and a recipient of the Gold Award. “It is both an honor and a privilege to be able to give back by serving the girls in our community,” said Johnson. “I am very fortunate to work for an agency that not only supports, but encourages this work. I'm a grown up Girl Scout and proud of it.”
Ranger Johnson and Chief of Interpretation and Education, Sandi Kinzer, accepted the award on behalf of the park.
