Washington, D.C.- Rock Creek Park celebrates our 115th anniversary on September 24, 2005. Rock Creek Park Day offers our vibrant and diverse neighbors a opportunities to explore and learn about their neighborhood national park. Take a hike or bike with a ranger, gaze at live native reptiles and raptors, sing and dance to music, view a planetarium show, travel on a magical journey with a Latina storyteller, or learn about the neighborhood volunteers who dedicate their time and expertise to Rock Creek Park. The Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The schedule of events follows on page 2. All programs will be held at the Rock Creek Park Nature Center and Planetarium.

10:00 AM: Historic Bike Tour: Bike with a ranger to a site in Rock Creek Park that helped defend our nation’s capital during the Civil War. (Bring your own bike, drinking water, and helmet). Ages 10 & up
11:00 AM: Cody & BJ: Sing and dance with this popular children’s singing group and learn about the importance of helping endangered animals and saving the rainforests. Ages 3 to 10
12:00 PM: A Magical Journey to Latin America : Storyteller Marian Licha will present stories and relate adventures of life in Puerto Rico with stories of Juan Bobo. Ages 4 & up
1:00 PM: A Hike Fit for a President: Take a 2-mile hike with a park ranger on the Valley Trail and find out which presidents recreated in Rock Creek Park. Ages 10 & up 2:00 PM: Reptiles Alive: Reclusive reptiles of Rock Creek Park are revealed in this fascinating one hour live animal program. All ages
3:00 PM: Birds of Prey: Swoop in with your family to see native raptors and learn about these hunters in the sky from the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia. All ages
4:00 PM: The Night Sky to Freedom: Learn how enslaved people on the Underground Railroad used the night sky as a compass to reach freedom. Ages 7 & up 8:00 PM: Exploring the Sky: Come see the stars! Join the National Park Service and members of the National Capital Astronomers in Rock Creek Park to view the stars, planets, and other night sky phenomena with telescopes. You may bring your own binoculars and scopes or share the equipment provided. Ages 10 & up
All Day Activities: Climbing Wall, Kids Craft Corner, Music, Karaoke, and Prizes
