NATIONAL PUBLIC LANDS DAY PIPESTONE NATIONAL MONUMENT
(Pipestone, MN.) September 24th is the twelfth annual National Public Lands Day. National Public Lands Day is an annual event that provides opportunities for the public to participate in volunteer projects. National Public Lands Day is organized by the National Environmental Education & Training Foundation supported by nine federal land management agencies and sponsored by Toyota and other businesses. This year the annual Fee Free Day will also be celebrated on September 24, 2005. On that day the National Park Service (NPS) will join the other Department of the Interior bureaus and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service and will waive entrance fees.
Pipestone National Monument is hosting its 4th annual volunteer day. Volunteers will be collecting native prairie plant seed around the Monument. By collecting plant seed, volunteers help in the restoration of the Monuments prairie. Last year, a multiple of volunteers helped collect seed from around the park. All volunteers who participate this year will receive one free admission eligible at any national park around the country.
Everyone is welcome to participate by meeting at the Monuments Visitor Center at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, September 24th for instruction and supplies. All project supplies will be provided; boots and long pants are recommended. Project time will be over by 12:00 P.M. (noon). Refreshments will be provided to the volunteers at the Monuments Visitor Center.
